Following on from the success of the 1981 Daily Travelcard, the Weekly Travelcard was the logical next step. However, this took some 4 months to reach fruition (Feb 1982). Todays Metcard Weekly is the current version of that ticket.

Concurrent with the 1st January 2005 fare rise, the prices for the 2-Hour x 10, 5 x Daily, Daily 5 pack and Weekly tickets were standardised. These tickets still provide a saving when compared to individual purchases of 2-Hour or daily tickets.

New conditions for Weekly, Monthly and Yearly Metcards were announced in a media release dated the 16th March 2005 from Metlink Chief Executive Officer, Mr Bernie Carolan. Quoting from the metlink site:

"Weekly Metcards validated for the first time after 3pm will now be valid for seven days inclusive of the date the ticket is first used. Therefore regardless of what time the ticket is first validated, Weekly Metcards will be valid for seven days. This change removes an anomaly which previously allowed travel on a Weekly Metcard (validated after 3pm) for up to eight days. Similarly, Monthly and Yearly Metcards validated after 3pm will be valid for one calendar month and one calendar year respectively. This change will be rolled out by Friday 25 March."
