Monthly TicketsPage last modified/checked: Saturday, 21 May, 2005A monthly multi-modal ticket was not offered until the Neighbourhood fare system took effect in November 1983 at which time it was included with the 3, 6 and 12 month "Commuter Pass" series. These tickets all required an application form and a photo card, which also acted as a means of protection and for refund purposes in the event of loss. A drawback to this entire range was the fact that they were all printed to cover a set period and did not offer the flexibility of purchase at the passengers discretion. This was partly rectified when a new range of monthly tickets that could be purchased on any date was introduced on 28th November 1988. This concept was incorporated into the current three zone fare system which commenced in August 1989, and of which Metcard is the current public face. |

"Weekly Metcards validated for the first time after 3pm will now be valid for seven days inclusive of the date the ticket is first used. Therefore regardless of what time the ticket is first validated, Weekly Metcards will be valid for seven days. This change removes an anomaly which previously allowed travel on a Weekly Metcard (validated after 3pm) for up to eight days. Similarly, Monthly and Yearly Metcards validated after 3pm will be valid for one calendar month and one calendar year respectively. This change will be rolled out by Friday 25 March." |
