Short Trip 10 TicketsPage last modified/checked: Saturday, 21 May, 2005As a Metcard-type ticket, these were not released into the system until early April 1998, by which time automatic fare collection was all but rolled out. Unfortunately, validators had not been installed on all buses in the North-West and Western suburbs and conflicting incidents occurred with some drivers refusing to accept these new Metcards. The opposite to this was when most bus companies had instructed their drivers to hand in their ticket punches and thus they were unable to validate the previous card-type short trips when presented. The hapless passenger was instructed to purchase the new Metcard type ticket but alas, a great many retail outlets had not yet received their supplies. An advertising campaign ran in the press during April to emphasize the changeover, and was soon altered to better clarify the exchange procedures for holders of partly used card 10 trips. These tickets are only available as pre-encoded issues. |

Rear of a Short Trip 10 ticket.
Short Trip x 10 tickets were withdrawn effective with the fare rise from 1st January 2004. A grace period exists until the 31st March 2004 to allow final usage of any trips remaining on existing tickets. A new ticket known as "City Saver x 10" was introduced with the fare rise and is a partial substitute for Short Trip 10, at least within the City Saver area. Many retail outlets within the CBD continued to sell Short Trip x 10 after January 1st, until stocks of the new pre-encoded City Saver x 10 were received. Please see the City Saver x 10 page for details of the new ticket type. |
