Off Peak Saver Tickets

Page last modified/checked: Saturday, 21 May, 2005
The genesis of this ticket type was the Metrocard Off Peak, which allowed return rail travel from the station of issue to the city then unlimited use of MMTB trams and buses to a perimeter just beyond the bounds of the Central Business District. Over the years there have been a number of subtle changes to the availability and naming of this ticket, but its soul has remained essentially the same as when introduced on 3rd August 1980.

The conditions of use for the off peak saver were substantially altered commencing the 1st January 2004. Tickets purchased in Zone 2 or Zone 3 are now available on all trains, trams and buses in Zones 1 + 2, or Zones 1 + 2 + 3 (respectively) after 9.00am on weekdays (not valid on public holidays). The previous restriction on return travel not being available during the evening peak has also been removed. To reflect the tickets wider availabilty, the "L" which signified "Loop" has been replaced by Zone 12, or Zone 123 (formerly Zone 2+L or Zone 3+L).
