Group Get-A-Bout Tickets

Page last modified/checked: Saturday, 21 May, 2005
There are two possible reasons as to why this ticket was introduced into the fare system on the 10th October 1992. Four months prior, the privilege of allowing a family to travel anywhere with the holder of a weekly, monthly or yearly ticket on weeekends was withdrawn, and the Group Get-A-Bout may have been developed in response to critisism over this move. Alternatively, it may have been provided to genuinely target smaller groups (Up to 2 Adults and 4 children) and thus be a cheaper option to a Family ticket (Up to 2 Adults and 6 children) or individual tickets. This ticket is only available for use on Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays.

Single zone

All zones

The only means of determining the availablity for both of the tickets shown above is the encoding process and the price, as neither ticket shows the zonal availablity. With the older card-style stock, seperate issues were provided for single zone (purple and white diagonal stripes) or all zones (pink and white diagonal stripes). Examples of these older style tickets have been seen in use as late as March 2001; why and from where is truly a mystery!

Group Get-A-Bout tickets were withdrawn effective with the fare rise from 1st January 2004. A grace period exists until 31st Mach 2004 to allow for the use of existing unused Group Get-A-Bout tickets. A new ticket known as "Group Traveller" was introduced with the fare rise. Please see the Group Traveller page for details of the new ticket type.
