Football Transport Ticket

Bayside and Hillside Trains, Swanston and Yarra Trams Joint Promotion with St.Kilda, Western Bulldogs and Hawthorn Football Clubs

Page last modified/checked: Tuesday, 11 December, 2007
For the commencement of the year 2000 home and away AFL season, the St.Kilda Football Club and the Western Bulldogs Football Club relocated their home games to Colonial Stadium, whilst the Hawthorn Football Club relocated their home games to the MCG. This coincided with the closure of the AFL Park stadium at Mulgrave, which was previously the home ground for Hawthorn and St.Kilda, but could not be practicably reached by public transport other than by limited normal bus services or special shuttle buses from Glen Waverley or Clayton stations. The Western Bulldogs relocated from the Western Oval (adjacent to West Footscray station) to Colonial Stadium at this time. In conjunction with these moves, the transport operators realised a healthy potential market would be available, particularly with those who had previously driven to AFL Park. As a result, all the operators combined (for the first time) to offer a special "footy season" ticket to all affected club members for travel to Colonial Stadium or the MCG. This ticket was only valid for travel on the clubs home game day. 4 types of ticket were provided for each club: Adult Zone 1, Adult all zones, Concession Zone 1 and Concession all zones. The tickets could only be purchased from the football clubs involved, and when used, required the purchaser to carry their current club membership ticket and photo identification with the travel ticket at all times. The ticket was valid for travel to and from the football match only, valid for one member and was not transferrable. The home games the ticket was valid for were listed on the inside of the ticket.

It is with great thanks to Damien and Belinda from Australian Rules Football Cards
that we are now able to provide images of these elusive tickets.

Unfortunately, we are only able to provide a scan from the
staff circular for the listing of home games...
and yes, the photocopy was that bad.!
