Melbourne International Comedy Festival Ticket

Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Hillside Trains and Bayside Trains

Page last modified/checked: Saturday, January 24, 2004
The long running and popular annual Melbourne Comedy festival was perhaps an unusual choice of events to target potential public transport patronage. This was a joint marketing initiative between Hillside and Bayside Trains and ran from March 30th to April 23 2000, inclusive. The marketing brief for this promotion was quite lengthy and had to be read closely to determine exactly where the ticket was aimed at. It was to encourage people to travel to related Comedy festival events. It also offered a two-for-one entry to the Comedy Zone Cabaret, which, while being a key part of the festival, could not practically be attended using public transport.

There were two types of tickets offered at both adult or concession fare from Zone 1 or Zones 1+2+3. They were sold from Premium stations, the Met Shop, or from Ticketmaster bookings. The ticket was valid for travel after 3.00pm and priced to undercut all normal ticket types. The design showed a partly raised set of level crossing boom barriers. Both the Comedy Festival and the ticket were supported through a broad range of media and print ads.
