MMTB Pre-Sold Section Tickets

Page last modified/checked: Friday, 4 October 2002
This series of thin card tickets came in a variety of vivid colours and were sold in booklets of 20 at the price of approximately 16 single fares. They had been available for many years prior to the zonal fare system, and were to be presented to the tram conductor or bus driver , who then punched the appropriate section boarding number /direction. The 11+ was necessary only for the MMTB's longer bus routes between the City and Eastern suburbs, these reached from 12 to 22 (!) sections. The longest tram routes came to 10 sections. The booklets could be purchased from tram or bus depots or from the Royal Arcade kiosk or MMTB Head Office, both of which were located in the City.

These tickets can also be found with the wording "Telecom Australia", "Hospital Travel", "Australia Post" and "Police". It appears these Government Departments supplied the tickets (somehow) directly to their employees via an arrangement of bulk purchase from the MMTB.
