Queen Victoria Market Park N Ride

Queen Victoria Market, Swanston Trams and Yarra Trams

Page last modified/checked: Tuesday, April 17, 2007
During February 2000, Yarra Trams announced plans for upgraded city tram stops ("super stops") and its desire to establish Park'n'Ride locations on the fringe of the CBD; the latter of these has now come to fruition (see our Park'n'Ride page). It is little known, however, that the Park'n'Ride idea was already on trial from around April 1999, at the Queen Victoria Market carpark. A special tram only ticket for use within an area extending approximately 1.5 to 3km from the CBD could be brought from the carpark attendant or from the Market's administrative office for $3.00. This ticket allowed unlimited travel on Swanston and Yarra trams on the date stamped. It also appears it wasn't a strict requirement that you had to park your car to obtain the tram ticket.

This ticket was withdrawn from sale in late 2006.

A pleasing design indeed

Ticket approx 62mm x 104mm

Note that the map does not specify exactly how far one could travel from the city, an omission that could have been
solved simply by identifying a stop number on each route. Click for 70k image of map.
