Travelcard - Weekly

It is unclear why these tickets had not been provided from the inception of the zone system; perhaps the Government wished to first gauge the acceptance of daily Travelcard before expanding the idea? Whatever the case, Travelcard Weekly introduced on 5th February 1982, was very popular and doubtless changed the ticket purchasing habits of many regular commuters who transferred between modes (but previously held seperate tickets).

Travelcard weekly was only ever provided as a large, thin card, "MMTB" type ticket. Rail stations now received a large hand dater specifically to validate these. They could also be purchased from MMTB tram depots and the Royal Arcade kiosk.

From circa December 1982, it appears that re-orders of Weekly Travelcard were printed in green ink. This probably resulted from the fact that the manufacturer (Star printing Works, Adelaide, S.A.) was instructed to supply daily Tram/Bus issue Travelcards in green ink. However, unlike the daily, there was no change to the format of the weekly.
