The 7 for 5 Travelcards

Another aspect of the launch process was the series of 7 for 5 travelcard tickets. These were devised as an inducement to commuters to make a one-off discounted purchase to cover their travel needs until the end of the year, some seven weeks away - a good idea. They were promoted in the neighbourhood brochures; but so too were the weekly tickets and their supposed introductory discount which we have covered. Perhaps it was hoped that regulars would make the outlay to purchase the 7 for 5 travelcard and therefore peg their travel costs rather than punt on weeklies which might creep up in price? Whatever the merits of this marketing tactic, sales of the 7 for 5 were limited, indeed we have never seen a used example.
