Debit Card Types

Page last modified/checked: Saturday, 23 February 2002
The larger machines at rail stations have the facility to purchase tickets using debit cards (rather than credit cards). Tickets purchased by this method feature the message "RETAIN AS EFTPOS RECEIPT", followed by the last digits of the debit card number (?), the type of transaction (cheque or savings), the debit card type, the country/currency code (?), and the approval code.
Initially, the machines were installed with a blank metal panel over the space where the keypad and card slot would ultimately be fitted. From our observations, the debit card facility was gradually introduced from January 1998.
