Under the heading "Non cash payments", the June 1996 AT Operators manual states "the BOM has the facility to record types of tender or credit used by a customer apart from cash. These types of tender or credits are known as Non Cash Payments. Four options for the Non-cash payments were then listed. These were SVC - Stored Value Card (with a note "This option not presently available"), CHQ - Cheque, EFTPOS - for passengers using debit/credit cards, ATTR - to record details of Authority to Travel receipts tenedered by passengers. Whenever one of these options was used, a single letter code was printed to the right of the fare paid.

It appears that the "S" option was never implemented, and the "C" was most probably only used during the earlier days of electronic ticketing and then being less and less used in favour of the EFTPOS option.
